30/3/2021 - COVID-19 UPDATE

We are currently taking bookings for accommodation for July and August 2021 in the hope that Covid-19 restrictions will have eased to allow movement within Ireland this summer. We are all aware how quickly the situation can change with Covid-19 and we will have to adhere to restrictions in place at that time.

If travelling from outside the island of Ireland
We would strongly recommend that you check the latest travel guidance from your own country’s Department of Foreign Affairs before travelling.  Further details about arriving into Ireland are available here 


In response to COVID-19, we would like to explain some of the measures that we are taking to make sure you have a safe and comfortable stay with us, here at The Benwiskin Centre.


  • Check in from 16.00hrs - 20.00hrs (latest check in time is strictly 20.00hrs)
  • On arrival to the Hostel, please use the footwear sanitizing basin at the front door
  • Clear guidance concerning social distancing of 2 metres is in place in the lobby area and at our screened Reception desk for both your protection and that of our staff
  • Please use the hand sanitisation unit in the entrance porch before approaching the reception desk


  • At reception, please use the hand sanitizer provided and please observe social distancing of 2 metres
  • When checking in with a group, only one member of the group should come to the reception desk to check in for everyone, this person will be the nominated group leader
  • The nominated group leader will be required to complete a COVID-19 Declaration form and the Hostel’s registration form. As guests are expected to pre-book, details of the Declaration form should have been sent to you when your booking was acknowledged by us
  • Contactless payment up to €50
  • We would strongly advise guests to pre-pay before arrival to limit the contact with staff
  • Screen at desk so that check-in process remains as contactless as physically possible, credit card pin pads sanitised after each use

Journey to your room

  • Where necessary, a staff member will show 1 member of your group around the Centre to point out the common areas and location of the guest’s bedroom whilst adhering to social distancing procedures
  • A floor plan of the building will be provided for your group

Entering your bedroom

  • Bedroom doors including handles are sanitised after each departure so will be fully sanitised upon arrival
  • All our bedrooms are cleaned to the highest standards but as part of our continued effort in the fight against COVID-19, we will now focus on sanitising high touch points immediately following our usual deep clean as follows:
    • Switches and controls including all lighting, electrical sockets, TV remote Control etc.
    • Surfaces including lockers, headboards, windowsill
    • Door handles including main door, drawers, blind pull chain
    • Wardrobe hangers
    • All ensuites including surfaces, taps, shower controls, shower walls, shower rails, toilet seat, toilet, waste bin, toilet brush holder, flush, towel rails
  • We have removed all non-essential items such as brochures, decorative pillows and extra pillows from bedrooms
  • Our linen is changed after every use. Our duvets and pillows are cleaned covered at all times with fresh mattress/pillow protectors.
  • All linens and towels are laundered in our laundry at temperatures above 60° and to HSE guidelines for your comfort and safety

We have made some changes to the operation of our self-catering kitchen and separate dining room

  • The self-catering kitchen is available to prepare your own meals between 8am – 11.00am and 13.00hrs to 20.00hrs daily
  • The kitchen and both dining areas will be closed from 11.00am - 13.00hrs to allow for cleaning and sanitising. Guests are not permitted to access these areas during those hours. Please use the hand sanitiser provided and please observe social distancing of 2 metres
  • To comply with social distancing of 2 metres, a second separate dining area will be available for guests to use
  • To use our self-catering kitchen to prepare meals, please book your time slot with staff at Reception on arrival
  • In the interest of others, please arrive at the correct time and do not exceed your allotted time to prepare your meals
  • Maximum of 1 party allowed in the kitchen at one time.
  • You will be allocated a kitchen cupboard, with your bedroom number on it which will contain cutlery and dishes etc. for your groups use only (during your stay). This cupboard can also be used to store your groceries
  • You will be allocated a table in one of the dining rooms with a number that also corresponds with your bedroom number. This table is for your group’s use only during your stay
  • You are required to wash and dry your dishes and put them away in your allocated cupboard after each use. Please do not leave any of your dishes in the sink or on the worktop
  • Your cupboard and the dishes used by your group will have an intense clean after your departure

Use of other communal areas

  • Clear guidance concerning social distancing of 2 metres is in place in all communal areas for both your protection and that of our staff
  • Hand sanitiser and paper towels available
  • Doors and all touch point areas regularly sanitised
  • The lounge will be closed from 11.00am - 13.00hrs for cleaning. Guests are not permitted to access this room during those hours
  • We have removed all non-essential items such as reading materials, cushions and board games from the lounge

Checking out

  • Check out time is strictly by 11.00am on the day of your departure to allow for cleaning before the next guest’s arrival.
  • Access is not permitted to any rooms in the Hostel after departure time.
  • When departing, please advise staff that you are departing and drop your keys in the bowl at the reception desk.
  • Please adhere to social distancing measures at the reception area when checking out.
  • When departing and the office is closed, please either leave your keys in the back of your bedroom door or lock your bedroom door and leave the keys in the green post box outside the front porch of the building

Pre-authorisation of credit/debit card
On receiving notification of your booking, we will pre-authorise your card in the sum of €1.


Covid-secure refunds - book a break with confidence

If you have made a payment for your booking in advance, please be reassured that any booking that is affected by a Government closure of business or restrictions on travel due to Covid-19, you will be offered a full refund or the opportunity for a change of date.

Forced cancellation of reservation due to Covid-19
If we are forced by the Government to close our business due to Covid-19 restrictions and the closure will affect your reservation, we will contact you to confirm this as soon as possible.

Non-Covid related issue for cancelling or modifying your booking for rooms or the whole Centre
We have a 48hr cancellation policy.  If you wish to cancel or modify your booking for a non-Covid-19 related issue, you will need to do this through the method used to make the booking i.e. or Hostelworld.  If your booiking was made directly with us, please call us on 071 9176721.  Please cancel in advance of the cancellation period to avoid any charges.

For room/s:-

  • Cancellation made 48+ hrs before arrival - No charge or full refund
  • Cancellation made within our 48hr cancellation period - your card used to make your reservation will be charged the fee for the first night's accommodation.

For a whole Centre booking:-

  • Cancellation made 15+ days before arrival - Full refund
  • Cancellation made up to 14 days before arrival - 50% refund or non-refundable change of date
