Free Training On Sligo’s Built & Cultural Heritage

Free Training On Sligo’s Built Heritage
From Neolithic burial chambers to 18th century box tombs, ancient Abbey’s to cathedrals, cottages to Castles, County Sligo has an amazing array of built heritage, with an assemblage of archaeological sites that outrank most other counties in Ireland. Sligo LEADER is offering communities a free training course on Sligo’s built heritage. The course will equip participants with an understanding of the archaeological sites of the earliest people living in Sligo to the historic period, and the development of Sligo’s architectural heritage. Participants will learn how to interrogate on-line resources so they can research the built heritage in their locality, carry out local heritage audits and be pro-active in raising awareness of the local built heritage. With guest speakers and site tours, this would be a very popular course.

Free Training On Sligo’s Cultural Heritage
With 300,000 expected to visit Sligo for the Fleadhs in both 2014 and 2015 now is an ideal time for local communities to further their understanding of the unique cultural heritage of Sligo. Sligo LEADER is offering communities training on Sligo’s Cultural Heritage including music, art, literature, language, genealogy, place names, sport, storytelling and other aspects of a rich and diverse culture heritage that Sligo can boast. The course will equip participants with a great appreciation and understating of the unique local cultural heritage and how to share and promote this locally and to Sligo’s many visitors. The training will be varied and involve a journey with musicians, writers, artists, story tellers and others that will inspire you to embrace the culture of Sligo.

If there is enough interest locally, we can host the courses here in The Benwiskin Centre, otherwise they may be moved to be central to Sligo.

To book your place on either please contact Sharon Eastwood from Woodrow (www.woodrow.ie) in Ballisodare on 071 9140542; 0877452141 or email Sharon. Please indicate if you would prefer to attend the full weekend course or an evening course that will run over six consecutive weeks. Places are limited and are expected to fill up quickly.
